Batching:

Batching means weighting of materials required for concreting .There are two type of batching

  1. Volume Batching
  2. Weight Batching

Volume batching:

          In volume batching a gauge box is used.

The gauge box is fixed on the base plate and it doesn’t allow the measuring material to fall down. In the Gauge box the cement and aggregate will be taken using the levelling rod the top surface is levelled so that the extra present materials at the box can be removed. The lifting handles are used for lifting the box.

Process of volume Batching:

In volume batching the cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate will be taken in volume. For 1 box of cement 2 box fine aggregate and 4 box of coarse aggregate are taken (1:2:4). This type of volume batching is used only for small construction like repair work. The accuracy for mixing the concrete by using the volume batching needs more experience.

Weight Batching:

Weight batching is nothing but weighting the material in kilogram (Kg). These are more accurate and have proper mixing. The weight batching has three types

  • Manual batching
  • Semi-automatic batching
  • Fully automatic batching

Manual batching:

In manual batching the weighting of materials is done manually by humans. This type of manual batching is used only for small works.

Semi-automatic batching:

In the semi-automatic batching the hopper gates are opened manually and closed automatically after pouring the required amount of materials.

Fully automatic batching:

In fully automatic a microprocessor is present it automatically controls the batching process it also find the moisture content of the fine and coarse aggregate so while mixing water will be added according to necessity. So that the proper mix can be obtained.

Process of Weight batching:

The process of weight batching is controlled by an engineer from the control room.

The first hopper is filled by smaller size angular aggregate and the center hopper is filled with fine aggregate and the third hopper is filled with bigger size aggregate compared to the first hopper. Opposite to this a cement storage tank or cement silo is present. From the cement silo the cement is taken by the screw pump to mixing chamber. After that the first hopper release the small size aggregate to the conveyer. The conveyer drop it to the bottom center hopper. Then the second hopper with fine aggregate is released directly to bottom hopper. Then the third hopper with bigger size aggregate is released to the conveyer and it brings it to the bottom center hopper. The bottom center hopper release the aggregate to the bucket which is connected to the conveyer. The conveyer takes it to the mixer.
